Thermal Power Plant
Photo Excursions #14
I just saw ’s latest artist feature with a great project from Nicolas Duclos featuring cooling towers from a power plant in all photos, and it inspired me to write this post.
I really enjoy photographing industrial infrastructure, and I always loved the work of Mark Power in this regard. In Poland, photographing industrial places was always frowned upon. In the communist times it was strictly forbidden, and later on – this idea that it should not be done somehow stuck with people. Now we’re getting back to the old ways with new laws being put in place to persecute unauthorised photography of strategically important places. This is supposedly caused by the nearby war in the Ukraine, and the influx of spies, sabotage, and “hybrid-war” between Russia and EU. In all earnest, I think that if a spy wanted to photograph something, they would find a way, and everything is on google street view anyways. So this new law will be dead from the very beginning. Still, photographing striking landscapes with industrial buildings may cause you trouble here.

That’s why I am bringing you these photos I took in 2012 on a photo-trip to the Thermal Power Plant in Kraków. This was only a couple of hours long guided tour, and it was a one-off event that was inspired by some new filtering infrastructure being installed. The plant management wanted publicity and someone thought it was a good idea to invite amateur photographers, to take pictures of their new eco-friendly solutions. Fine by me. I am certain this was a one in a lifetime opportunity to go there and photograph. I wish I could spend more time there and take better pictures. I hope you like these.

I also have some photos from inside the Steelworks in Kraków, but I will save them for some other time.
Till the next one!
